Mine is a simple attempt to contribute to a profession I hold close to my heart - journalism. I have worked for a number of years as a journalist and most recently as a freelance correspondent of an international media organisation. Although I am currently an academic, I hope my journalistic experience will reflect more each time I comment on a subject-matter. I am, therefore, more than happy to welcome comments from readers.

NMFUK loses immediate past ameer
With a deep sense of loss and total gratitude to Allah the Nigerian Muslim Forum UK (NMFUK) announces the passing away of its immediate past ameer, Dr Muhammad Sani Makarfi after a brief illness on Wednesday November 11, 2015. Dr Makarfi was NMFUK’s ameer between December 2012 and September 2013. He completed his PhD in Environmental Science at Newcastle University in 2014 and returned to Nigeria. He was until his death a lecturer in Chemistry at Kaduna State University.
Dr Makarfi will be remembered for his immense contribution towards boosting the Forum’s charitable activities, particularly the introduction of radio campaign, which he anchored to generate funds. He was a selfless leader who patiently discharged his duties.
“Malam Sani was a good leader and a good role model for all of us. May Allah make it easier for his family at this difficult time. May Allah forgive him and give him Jannah,” says the ameer of NMFUK, Dr Ahmed Abdullahi.
Dr Makarfi has since been buried in Kaduna and he is survived by a wife and five children.
